Everything on a single card

Many organizations combine three functions in the same smart card: (1) logon to computer systems and computer networks, (2) photo ID with bar code and other personal information, and (3) electronic access to control systems. Combining several features on one card provides substantial cost savings.

Not only does Net iD enable logging on with smart cards, it also provides access to Internet-based services that require electronic identification and signatures (PKI).

Users benefit from the most advanced encryption technology available without the need to know anything about encryption. Using electronic signatures, legally binding documents and agreements can be exchanged, and secure messages can be sent via most e-mail programs.

Patient information in health care and the exchange of information between government agencies and citizens are examples of growing application areas. Demands for improved availability and less bureaucracy, in combination with international directives and national legislation, are important drivers of these developments. Smart cards and PKI are important tools for the public sector to reach its goals of providing 24-hour service to citizens and businesses, regardless of location.
